Office of Global Affairs Hosts Lukang Old Street Cultural Experience for International Students

The Office of Global Affairs recently organized a “Lukang Old Street Cultural Experience” day trip to help international students gain deeper insight into Taiwan’s history and local culture. The event offered students an opportunity to explore one of Taiwan’s most historically significant towns through guided visits and experiential learning.

The program included visits to traditional streets, ancient houses, historic temples, and cultural landmarks, allowing students to better understand early community development and religious traditions in Taiwan. A hands-on dough figurine-making activity and local refreshments were also incorporated, providing an interactive and approachable introduction to Taiwanese folk culture.

Participants indicated that the experience enhanced their understanding of Taiwan’s historical architecture, religious practices, and traditional lifestyles. Taking place shortly before the Lunar New Year, the activity also enabled students to experience Taiwan’s seasonal cultural atmosphere and festive traditions.

Beyond cultural learning, the event encouraged interaction among international students and supported their cultural adjustment and sense of belonging. The Office of Global Affairs will continue to organize immersive cultural programs that promote cross-cultural understanding and a welcoming international learning environment.
