OGA Hosts Spring Festival Calligraphy Event to Promote Cultural Exchange

To help international students studying in Taiwan gain a deeper understanding of Lunar New Year traditions and experience the festive atmosphere, as well as to promote interaction and friendship among students, the Office of Global Affairs organized Spring Festival Calligraphy Events on February 5 (Shuinan Campus) and February 9 (Yingcai Campus). The events provided international students with the opportunity to experience calligraphy and further appreciate Taiwanese cultural heritage.

The activities were conducted in two levels: beginner and advanced. The beginner class introduced the “Eight Principles of the Yong Character” as a foundation, along with the background and cultural significance of Spring Festival couplets. Students practiced writing the characters “Spring” (春), “Fortune” (福), and “Horse” (馬), and learned about the pictographic origins of the character “Horse.” In the advanced class, each group wrote an idiom related to the horse, allowing students to explore various auspicious expressions and blessings associated with the character.

At the end of the activity, the calligraphy instructor presented each student with a personally handwritten Spring Festival couplet as a commemorative gift, bringing the event to a warm and meaningful conclusion.
