Office of Global Affairs Promotes Cross-Cultural Communication Through Innovative LEGO® Six Bricks Workshop
The Office of Global Affairs recently hosted the Building Professional Impact: LEGO® Six Bricks Workshop on Communication & Team Collaboration, bringing together international students and staff members from the Office of Global Affairs in a shared learning environment.
This workshop was uniquely designed to place administrative staff and international students in the same teams, allowing participants to experience firsthand how cultural backgrounds influence communication styles, interpretation of instructions, and collaboration dynamics. Through a series of structured, hands-on LEGO® Six Bricks activities, participants engaged in problem-solving tasks that simulated real-world academic and workplace communication challenges.
Students responded enthusiastically to the interactive format, noting that the activities made abstract concepts such as clarity, feedback, and teamwork immediately visible and actionable. The playful yet purposeful design of the workshop encouraged active participation, reflection, and open discussion across cultural and professional roles.
Staff participants also gained valuable insights. One staff member reflected that the workshop revealed previously unnoticed communication gaps that can exist even among colleagues working closely together. The experience highlighted the importance of being more aware of subtle barriers in order to foster stronger teamwork, mutual understanding, and more effective collaboration in a multicultural environment.
By creating a shared space for staff and students to learn together, the Office of Global Affairs reinforced its commitment to intercultural understanding and inclusive communication practices on campus.
