Office of Global Affairs Hosts “Discover Taiwan” Cultural Experience
The Office of Global Affairs recently organized the “Discover Taiwan: Hakka Indigo Dyeing and Old Mountain Line Cultural Experience,” a one-day program designed to help international students gain deeper insight into Taiwanese culture, history, and sustainable living.
The activity combined an Old Mountain Line Railway Bike experience, a hands-on Hakka indigo dyeing workshop, and a vegetarian lunch featuring local ingredients. Through the railway bike experience, students explored Taiwan’s railway heritage while enjoying the surrounding natural scenery. The indigo dyeing workshop allowed participants to engage directly with traditional Hakka craftsmanship and cultural practices.
Overall feedback from participants was highly positive. Students appreciated the well-planned itinerary, engaging activities, and thoughtful arrangements by the staff. Many noted that the combination of cultural learning, hands-on experiences, local cuisine, and warm hospitality made the activity especially meaningful, and expressed interest in participating in similar programs in the future.
Through initiatives such as this, the Office of Global Affairs continues to support international students’ cultural adaptation, well-being, and campus engagement, fostering an inclusive and globally minded learning environment.
