2025 Taiwan Scholarship and Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Recipients Orientation & Welcome Party!
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) jointly held the “2025 Taiwan Scholarship and Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Welcome Ceremony for New Students” on the afternoon of October 20.
MOFA Deputy Minister Wu Chih-Chung and MOE Political Deputy Minister Liu Kuo-Wei each delivered remarks on behalf of their ministries.
The event gathered over 800 attendees, including new students from around the world and members of the diplomatic corps in Taiwan. The ceremony opened with an energetic drum performance by “Zhong Ji Fang,” symbolizing Taiwan’s vitality and hope.
Deputy Minister Wu noted that since the launch of the Taiwan Scholarship and Huayu Enrichment Scholarship programs in 2004, more than 3,000 students from Taiwan’s diplomatic allies and like-minded countries have benefited from these initiatives.
To further expand international education cooperation, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-Lung has introduced the “Taiwan Scholarship Doubling Plan,” aiming to increase the annual quota from approximately 250 to 500 recipients by 2026.
The program will also extend eligibility to 12 like-minded democratic partners, marking a new milestone under the concept of “Comprehensive Diplomacy × 12.”
Deputy Minister Wu encouraged the new students to cherish their study opportunities in Taiwan and to actively participate in the 92 Taiwan Alumni Associations worldwide and the Taiwan Alumni Association (TAA) platform, becoming bridges for strengthening international friendship.
Deputy Minister Liu emphasized the importance of Mandarin learning, encouraging students not only to improve their language and academic skills but also to experience Taiwan’s rich cultural diversity and humanistic spirit firsthand.
The ceremony concluded in a warm and lively atmosphere, marking the start of a new academic journey and showcasing the fruitful achievements of Taiwan’s Comprehensive Diplomacy × 12 initiative.
The 12 like-minded democratic partners include the United States, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy—the G7 nations—as well as South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, and India in the Indo-Pacific and First Island Chain region.
