International Students from China Medical University Explore Taiwan's Tea Culture in Mingjian, Nantou

On August 5th, 2025, a group of international students embarked on a cultural journey to Mingjian Township in Nantou County — Taiwan’s top tea-producing region, contributing around 30% of the nation's total tea output. Mingjian is also a major supplier for the country’s booming bubble tea industry.

As the students traveled through the countryside, they were treated to breathtaking views of lush tea plantations, pineapple farms, dragon fruit orchards, and rice fields. The first stop was the Songboling Visitor Center, where they learned about different types of tea, tea-making tools, and the tea production process. A highlight of the visit was a live tea-brewing demonstration by a local tea expert, who introduced the students to the rich culture and philosophy behind Taiwanese tea.

Next, they visited the nearby Tea Street. Although time did not allow for shopping, the local vendors warmly greeted the students and generously offered refreshing cold-brewed tea — a gesture that deeply impressed the visitors with the warmth of Taiwanese hospitality.

Lunch was at "Barefoot Fairy Restaurant," which provided Halal-certified meals, ensuring that Muslim students could dine like everyone else without having to resort to vegetarian options. The final stop was the “Tan Jia Ren Tea House,” where students tasted a variety of teas and created their own personalized blend based on their birthdate - a unique and memorable souvenir from their cultural exploration.

Through this immersive experience, the international students not only gained insights into Taiwan’s thriving tea industry but also forged meaningful connections with local culture and community spirit.
