Professor Yeoh Khay Guan, Chief Executive at NUHS Visits CMU to Strengthen Multidimensional International Collaboration
Professor Khay Guan Yeoh, Chief Executive at the National University Health System (NUHS) in Singapore, visited China Medical University (CMU) and its affiliated hospital from March 17 to 18, 2025. During his two-day visit, Prof. Yeoh signed MOUs with both CMU and the affiliated hospital, reinforcing partnerships in medical services and research between the institutions.
During the visit, Prof. Yeoh delivered two keynote speeches. The first speech, titled "Transforming Our Health System for the Future", hosted by CMU Hospital, addressed global healthcare challenges such as aging populations, rising medical costs, and shortages of healthcare professionals. Prof. Yeoh shared NUHS’s transformation strategy centered around four key pillars: workforce development, new care models, technology and innovation, and system enablers. The strategy aims to build a future health system that emphasizes prevention and sustainability.
The second speech, "Metaplasia and the Origins of Gastric Cancer", organized by the Office of Global Affairs, provided in-depth insights into the origins and pathogenesis of gastric cancer. Prof. Yeoh highlighted the critical role of intestinal metaplasia as a precancerous phenotype and shared the latest findings from genomic research and the development of serum miRNA biomarkers, offering new perspectives for early diagnosis and prevention.
In addition to academic exchanges, on March 18, the NUHS delegation, accompanied by the Office of Global Affairs, visited Ever Fortune.AI Co., Ltd. to discuss the development of digital health and explore potential collaborative models, aiming to advance smart healthcare applications.
On the same day, the delegation also visited the Big Data Center to participate in an in-depth meeting themed "Big Data & AI in Action." The meeting introduced CMUH's iHi Platform data service ecosystem, AI-powered data annotation tools, and several application cases, including the Acute Kidney Injury Detection System (AKIDS), the use of the genomics platform in chronic kidney disease research, and collaborations with a Singapore-based peritoneal dialysis startup. The NUHS team actively engaged in Q&A sessions regarding implementation details and joined an online roundtable discussion with Professor Satoshi Morita from Kyoto University. The discussion covered topics such as data governance, AI ethics, and potential collaborations within the East Asian Clinical Trials Alliance, concluding with a summary of possible future action plans.
This visit further strengthened multifaceted collaborations between CMU and NUHS in areas including healthcare transformation, cancer research, smart healthcare, and big data applications, laying a solid foundation for future international academic exchanges and substantive partnerships.
