Introduction
On Chinese New Year in 1984, Five Branches University became one of the first Traditional Chinese Medicine colleges in the United States. Our beginning was exciting, yet humble, with one classroom, a small clinic and five teachers. Thanks to a growing interest in Chinese medicine by patients and practitioners alike, our school has grown to include two campuses, 100 instructors, 450 students, and 140 patients per day in our medical centers. Located in sunny California, our Santa Cruz and San Jose locations offer the best of both worlds: the relaxing atmosphere of beautiful beaches and redwood forests and the high energy excitement of a city filled with culture, entertainment and high technology.
The dedicated and passionate faculty at Five Branches has played a significant role in our growth and in establishing our reputation as a leader in education and patient care in Traditional Chinese medicine. Our faculty is a diverse community of practitioners, teachers, international lecturers and published authors, some of whom have been core faculty members for over 20 years.
The strong sense of community on both of our campuses is a result of our vital and determined student body. With some of the highest passing rates on both state and national licensing exams, our students have gone on to become successful and esteemed practitioners of Chinese Medicine across the nation and internationally.
Our mission is to increase the growth and acceptance of Chinese Medicine in the U.S. We accomplish this by educating our students on the strong foundations of both Chinese and Western medicine, by offering extensive clinical experience and by providing advanced training through a Doctoral program and specialization certifications. It is the combination of Chinese and Western diagnosis, herbal formulas and acupuncture that offers the highest level of healthcare to our patients and the most comprehensive education to our students.
