Introduction
Set up in the year 1990, accredited by the Law 240/2002, and having, as a spiritual patron, the illustrious historical personality that was Vasile Goldiş, the ideologist of the Great Union of December 1, 1918, the Western University „Vasile Goldiş” of Arad is one of the universities that were included in „The european area of higher education”, being a signatory party to the Magna Charta Universitatum of Bologna.Currently, the Western University „Vasile Goldiş” is a full member of the European University Association - E.U.A., of the Danubian University Association and owns the vice-presidency of the Federation Européenne des Ecoles (European Federation of Schools) - F.E.D.E, which is a participating body in the Council of Europe. Likewise, it is a member of the International Consortium „ Carolus Magnus”, with its headquarters in Paris. Since the month of November 2007, the University has been a member of the World Alliance of Universities for Democracy (A.U.D.E.M), alongside othera 200 prestigious Universities in the entire world.With a number of over 20.000 de students, master’s degree and PhD candidates, with over 30.000 alumni, the University is a founding member of the Union of Accredited Private Universities in Romania and is in partnership relations with more than 38 Universities from abroad and with 18 Institutes of scientific research – which facilitates the organization of Bachelor, Master and PhD (in co-tutelage) study programs, as well as academic mobility for students and professors. Be means of a modern academic Curriculum, centred on the student, the Western University „Vasile Goldiş” of Arad offers today, according to the European model of Bologna, all the three cycles of higher education: Bachelor, Master and PhD. Owing to the European system of transferable study credits, the students, master’s and PhD enjoy the benefit of the chance of academic mobility within the country and abroad.
The Western University „Vasile Goldiş” is the only one in Arad that was given the right by the Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation, to organize PhD studies in the field of medicine. With an elite academic staff, a teaching and researching infrastructure in accordance with the European standards, the educational offer of the Western University “Vasile Goldiş” of Arad for the academic year 2009 - 2010 responds to all requirements, offering the chance for its alumni to stand out on a globalized workforce market.
