Application Procedure

  1. Read the Application Guideline for International Students Admissions.( Download )
  2. Prepare all required documents. ( See required documents )
  3. Online Application: https://web81.cmu.edu.tw/Std_international/
    Applicants must upload all of application documents and confirm the application information before the deadline. ( Please contact intelstu@mail.cmu.edu.tw for confirmation if you finish all of the online application procedures )

 

Required Documents

  1. Online Application Form
  2. Declaration form ( please upload to online application system )
  3. Photocopies of the graduation certificate and transcript of the highest degree obtained.
    Applicants must submit the graduation certificate and transcript of the highest degree obtained. (A Chinese or English translation which is notarized by local authority is required if the documents are not in Chinese or English) Applicants shall submit the proof of enrollment officially issued by the school/university if he/she has not graduated yet at the time of application. The transcript should include the information of the applicant′s performance in class expressed in number or percentage, and the program′s duration or the starting date and completion date. The graduation certificate and transcript shall be authenticated by Taiwan Embassy or Taiwan representative office in/near the country before enrollment if the applicants are admitted.
  4. Official bank statements
    It must be submitted to prove the applicants′ ability to provide the needed funds for enrollment with the balance on it. The minimum balance should be equivalent to U.S. Dollar 5,000 or above. It should be issued by the bank officially with the information of current balance and currency. The bank statement should be issued maximum 6 months before the time of application, or the last date of the financial record must be within recent 6 months. (A Chinese or English translation which is notarized by local authority is required if the documents are not in Chinese or English) A copy of Taiwan Scholarship Certificate is required if the applicant is a Taiwan Scholarship recipient.
  5. A study plan written in Chinese or in English
  6. You must provide at least TWO letters of recommendation, please provide the contact information of the recommenders when you apply. After you complete all application process, the system will automatically send an email to the recommenders, and inform them to complete the process of recommendation letter.
  7. Verification of Nationality
    • A photocopy of the applicant′s birth certificate
    • A photocopy of the applicant′s passport
    • Photocopies of the applicant′s parents′ passports
      ( or any document that shows parental relationship to the applicant and his/her nationality. )
  8. Proof of Language Proficiency
    • Applying for undergraduate programs:
      Most of the courses are given in Chinese. The applicant must have the Chinese Proficiency Certificate of CEFR Level A2 (Waystage) or Level B1 (Threshold) or above (or equivalent). For the comparison of the TOCFL, HSK, and CEFR please refer to Application Guideline Appendix 2.
      Applicants that meet any one of the following criteria are exempted from providing certificates of Chinese proficiency:
      • Chinese (Mandarin) is your mother tongue
        If your mother tongue is Chinese, please fill your autobiography in Chinese outlining your day-to-day use of the language, learning progress, and your listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills.
      • Your previous degree was conducted in Chinese (Mandarin)
        If any of your previous degrees (including senior high school′s diploma) was conducted in Chinese (Mandarin), please submit an official certification provided by your previous university/high school.
      • You have previously majored in Chinese (Mandarin)
        If any of your previous degrees (including senior high school′s diploma) was of a Chinese (Mandarin) major, please submit your graduation certificate or a certification provided by your previous university/high school.
    • Applying for master's and doctoral programs:
      All graduate programs provide English courses for international students. Applicants must have an English proficiency certificate of CEFR Level B2 or above (or equivalent), such as TOEFL iBT 72, TOEFL ITP 543, IELTS 5.5, or other equivalent tests. For CERF conversion please refer to Application Guideline Appendix 2. Applicants that meet any one of the following criteria are exempted from providing certificates of English proficiency:
      • You are from the nations with English as the Official or Common Language:
        Please find The List of Nations with English as the Official or Common at Application Guideline Appendix 3.
      • Your previous degree was obtained from an English-speaking country:
        If any of your previous degrees was from a nations with English as the official or common, please submit your graduation certificate.
      • Your previous degree was conducted in English:
        If any of your previous degrees was entirely taught in English, please submit a certification provided by your previous university.
  9. Other additional documents that ate required by the department or institute
  10. Applicants who hold a foreign nationality as well as an ROC nationality should submit documents showing residence abroad for at least 6 consecutive years ( Applicants for the bachelor programs in the School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, School of Chinese Medicine and School of Post-Baccalaureate Chinese Medicine should submit documents showing residence abroad for at least 8 consecutive years ).
  11. Applicants who once had ROC nationality and have household registration in Taiwan and now hold foreign nationality should submit documents issued by the Ministry of Interior indicating that the person in concern has given up ROC nationality for at least 8 years.
  12. An applicant of foreign nationality, concurrently holding a permanent residence status in Hong Kong or Macao, having no history of a household registration record in Taiwan should submit documents showing residence abroad for at least 6 years ( Applicants for the bachelor programs in the School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, School of Chinese Medicine and School of Post-Baccalaureate Chinese Medicine should submit documents showing residence abroad for at least 8 years ).
  13. According to the resident visa regulation for students with the nationality of Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand, applicants should submit the certificate of Chinese or English proficiency test of certain level. Please confirm with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand for application requirements.
