CMU at NAFSA 2015: Expanding new horizons in international education

The 2015 NAFSA Annual Conference and Expo kicked off on 26th May, 2015 at Boston, USA. More than 400 institutions, organizations, and educational service providers from all over the world joined the non-profit association’s conference for international education. It was a great honor and pleasure to continue China Medical University’s tradition of being part of the NAFSA Conference. Dr. Sarina H. L. Chien, Director of Center for Public Relations, attended the conference on behalf of CMU. In addition to exploring potential partnerships with several world-renowned universities, Dr. Chien also seized the opportunity to greet many of our old friends including South Dakota State University, University of North Alabama, Medical University of Graz, Anahuac Mayab University, and so on.

For many years, the NAFSA Annual Conference has been a unique occasion for organizations, educators, and companies to collaborate with skilled professionals on developing new knowledge and ideas to grow and succeed. Funded by the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan (FICHET), 19 Taiwanese universities including CMU co-organized a “Study in Taiwan” exhibition at the conference. It is also worth mentioning that during the “Happy Hour” event, foreign guests who visited Taiwan Booth were invited to try some bubble milk tea and other Taiwanese specialties prepared by the “Study in Taiwan” exhibitors.

In the four-day exhibition, Dr. Chien had met with representatives from Chiba University, Japan. Chiba University is a national comprehensive university with educational and research activities encompassing fundamental disciplines such as science, medicine, pharmacy and nursing. As a pharmacy expert, Atsushi Nishida, the Vice President of Chiba University, expressed his intention to establish relationships with CMU’s College of Pharmacy, College of Health and College of Medicine. Furthermore, delegates from the University of Fernando Pessoa in Portugal, the Bogor Agricultural University in Indonesia, and the University of Regina in Canada had expressed their interest in connecting with CMU.

The 2015 NAFSA Conference had come to a fruitful end. It had been an unforgettable experience to expand our vision through meetings and discussions with various elite educators. China Medical University will continue to strive for further progress in internationalization.
