Introduction

Founded in 1942, Health Sciences University Mongolia (HSUM) was originally named as the Medical Faculty of the Mongolian State University. The establishment of this university marked the beginning of Mongolian modern history of medical science. In 1961 the Medical Faculty was separated from Mongolian State University and formed as Mongolian State Medical Institute. It was in 1990, after the Democratic Revolution of 1989, that the University was reorganized to become the "National Medical University of Mongolia". Over the years, in 2003 the university was restructured again to become the Health Sciences University of Mongolia and has grown into a multidisciplinary institution compromising seven schools and 44 departments, with well balanced programs in the medicine, biomedicine, dentistry, traditional medicine, nursing, pharmacy and public health.
